Spend the morning in Chefchaouen and enjoy the fresh mountain air, then travel to Volubilis. This is the site of Roman Ruins dating back centuries and surprisingly large. Here you will have a local guide to show you the site.

After that, drive to Meknes, one of the Imperial Cities and site of the beautiful Royal Palace and stables. Enjoy lunch in the Medina (try camel meat if you like!) and then off to Fes into the plains that cradle this ancient hub of culture.

Day 4: Fes

Today you will meet your local city guide and enjoy a full day tour of the Medina and surrounding area. Marvel at the carved brass gates at the Royal Palace, walk through the Jewish quarter, meander through the narrow busy streets of the Medina stopping for demonstrations of weavers, carpet knotting, brass hammering and tile and pottery making. Visit the famous Chouara tannery, a UNESCO site and famous for its natural dyeing methods dating back centuries. You will stop for lunch along the way and return to your Riad dazzled by the sights and sounds.

In the afternoon you will have free time to try a traditional Hammam & Spa, do some shopping or just relax at a rooftop cafe and take in the Moroccan air.

Day 5: Fes Ifrane Midelt – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert (460 Km)

Leave Fes behind, your camels await!

Today you will leave the city of Fes and the north of Morocco and travel south to the Sahara Desert. You will notice an incredible change in landscape along the way, and by the end of the day, you can reflect on the vast difference between the north and the south of Morocco. First you will pass Ifrane, the 3rd cleanest city in the world, home of the best university in Morocco, Al Akhawayn, and city known as “the Switzerland of Morocco”.

Through the cedar forest and a national park keep your eyes open for a chance to see Barbary apes (Macaque) and Berber horses. You will pass by beautiful pastures and nomad houses that give way to increasingly high mountain peaks and deep valleys. You will come upon Midelt and its vast collection of fossils at lunch time and then continue on through the Middle Atlas Mountains.

Traveling along the Ziz Valley you will see the Tafilalt Oasis which is the largest palm grove in Morocco before heading into the flatter and stonier plaines leading up to the desert. After a stop for tea, you will ride the camels for an hour into the Sahara of Erg Chebbi dunes, where you will enjoy the evening at a Desert camp with dinner prepared for you by nomads.

Day 6: Merzouga Desert – Rissani – Erfoud – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley (280 Km)

First you will want to watch the sunrise on this bright new day over the dunes of the Sahara Desert, before heading back to your vehicle for the start of your day.

The next stop is Rissani; known for its bustling traditional market and souks, which provide a glimpse into the daily life and commerce of the region. The market is particularly lively on market days, drawing traders and locals from the surrounding areas who come to buy and sell a variety of goods, including spices, textiles, crafts, etc.

Later, you will drive through Erfoud (home to some of the world’s oldest fossils, but more importantly the date capital of Morocco, dates of all varieties), towards Tinejdad, and the landscape is still very dry. You will see mounds of the old irrigation system called “Khettarat”.

After lunch you will be heading up to the Todra Gorge, which is a trench of gigantic rock walls run through the High Atlas Mountains creating an absolutely magnificent sight. The Gorge is breathtaking and easy hike by foot with many places to stop for photos along its well-maintained track. In recent years, the Todra Gorge has attracted a lot of attention from serious climbers, the rock formations vary between 25 to 300 m. Once you arrive to the gorge, you will be eager to explore it!

Stay in the nearby Dades valley for the overnight and enjoy the traditional Berber lifestyle of the south.

Day 7: Dades Valley – Roses Valley – Skoura – Ouarzazate (160 Km)

Travel through the southern villages and along a spectacular route called “The road of 1000 Kasbahs”, where there are literally thousands of Kasbahs, some in ruins and some still in use. Stopping at the Roses Valley, where roses are plucked each year on May and distilled to precious rose oil and other beauty products.

Visit Ouarzazate, often referred to as the “Gateway to the Sahara” and the “Hollywood of Morocco”. Its unique desert landscapes, ancient Kasbahs, and stunning natural scenery have made it a popular choice for filmmakers. Films like “Lawrence of Arabia,” “Gladiator,” and TV series like “Game of Thrones” have been shot in and around Ouarzazate.

Visit the Cinema studios and explore Taourirte  Kasbah alley ways up to the top and get a birds eye view of the surrounding area, before settling in for the night in the city.

Day 8: Ouarzazate Ait Benhaddou –  High Atlas Mountains –  Marrakech (200 Km)

Today after breakfast, visit the fascinating and beautiful Ait Benhaddou; a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the active home of 5 or 6 Berber families who still live in the Kasbah. This ancient fortified village, made of mudbrick structures, has been used as a backdrop in numerous films and TV shows. It offers a glimpse into traditional Moroccan architecture and is a must-visit destination for history and culture enthusiasts.

After that, you will head over the High Atlas Mountains. This is one of the most beautiful drives exist in Morocco. Up to the top of the highest pass at “Tizi n’ Tichka” at 2260 m and down the windy roads into the valley that is home to Marrakech.

Approach the famous Red City of Marrakech and settle into your Riad, which is located in the heart of the old Medina.

Day 9: Marrakech

This morning after breakfast a local guide will meet you at your Riad for 1/2 day tour of the history and sights of Marrakech. Visit the Mellah (old Jewish quarter), the Saadian tombs, Bahia Palace, Madrasa Ben Youssef and the souks. Get an understanding of how Marrakech has grown over centuries and get a feel for the Medina, which is one of the most famous in the world.

Your guide will leave you in the square where you can enjoy lunch. In the afternoon choose from a number of things for your free time, whether an escape from the chaos of the city to the peaceful Gardens of Majorelle, a visit to the hammam or time spent shopping for last-minute items, your time in Marrakech will certainly be memorable!

Enjoy your dinner in Jamea el Fna square, where snake charmers play their flutes and orange juice stalls beckon you to taste. Try snail soup if you dare, or just enjoy some traditional Moroccan barbecue in the midst of the excitement.
